Every now and then, nature always loves to bring a little magic into our lives with something truly extraordinary. That’s exactly what happened not too long ago at Brights Zoo in Limestone, Tennessee. A baby giraffe came into the world with a very special look: she was born without her usual spots, which is quite unusual for her kind. Yet, despite her unique appearance, she wins over the hearts of everyone who sets eyes on her. It’s like nature is reminding us that beauty comes in all forms, even when it’s a bit unexpected.
Something really rare happened at the zoo on July 31st when a giraffe was born without spots, which is not something you see often. This giraffe is getting a lot of attention from experts and people who visit the zoo. She might be the only giraffe with a solid color in the world.

Normally, giraffes have brown and orange spots that help them hide in the places they live, for example, in the savannah. It can be said that having a giraffe born without spots is an extraordinary thing. And David Bright, who takes care of the zoo, says that the last time a giraffe like this was born was in Tokyo in 1972. The giraffe was born at a zoo in Tokyo, and they named her Toshiko.
Brights Zoo knows that having a giraffe like this is important. They want to use her story to tell people about the problems that giraffes face in the wild.
Tony Bright, who founded the zoo, says, “The whole world talking about our special baby giraffe is helping people learn about giraffes and how we need to save them. In just the last 30 years, 40% of giraffes in the wild have disappeared.”

According to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, the type of giraffe with spots like hers became endangered in 2018. Brights Zoo wants people to see this special giraffe and understand that we need to work hard to keep giraffes safe.
In order to celebrate the birth of this special giraffe, the zoo is having a contest to pick a name for her. They want everyone who comes to the zoo to help choose a name. The contest will end on September 4, and they’ll announce the winner soon after.

Update:As of Monday, August 22, the zoo announced that they had whittled down the list of names for the contest to four options: Kipekee, translating to “unique”; Firyali, signifying “unusual” or “extraordinary”; Shakiri, representing “she is most beautiful”; and Jamella, which means “one of great beauty.”
These names are all so sweet and certainly fit the baby giraffe. We hope that the zoo will soon know which one is the most amazing name for this extraordinary baby!
