It’s wonderful that we have firefighters who are always willing to assist us in need. And sometimes, not only for humans, these heroes’ missions involve rescuing pets from tricky situations.
A few days ago, in Vidor, Texas, some Walmart employees heard a kitten’s cries coming from a nearby storm drain. They were so worried about the poor animal’s situation that they called the fire department for help. Immediately, the Orange County ESD 1 team responded to the report and was on their way to 1360 N Main St.

When the firefighters arrived, they were able to locate the baby cat’s position right away. The scared little kitten was trapped in the muddy storm drain and desperately asked for help.
Absolutely, it wasn’t an easy job. To get to the kitten, the firefighters had to go through a manhole and crawl 30 feet inside the storm drain. Thankfully, they pulled it off successfully.

“Fire crews had to climb down through a manhole into the storm drain and then crawl 30 ft into the drain to retrieve the kitten,” the department wrote on Facebook.
Imagine doing that on a hot day! But their hard work paid off, and they successfully saved the kitten. Thanks to the efforts of all involved teams, the little kitten is now safe and sound.
“Great work all around by all those involved(Vidor Police Department, Vidor Animal Control, and Walmart staff members).” shared Orange County ESD 1.

For the firefighters, this was not a typical rescue. They even joked that they don’t often have to save cats stuck in trees.
“Contrary to popular belief it’s not an everyday thing that we get to help out a kitten in a tight situation. And no we don’t have to save cats out of trees but storm drains are another thing, especially in this heat wave.” Orange County ESD 1 wrote.

Following the rescue, it was discovered that this little cat had been a stray cat who had been wandering the streets by herself without a loving home. She is now fed and cleaned up. She is surely ready to find a loving new home.
